Teaching Children with Autism

Teaching Children with Autism

Yesterday, there was an announcement from the new Minister of Children and Youth Services reinstating to eligibilty for intensive behavioural intervention children with autism who are older than four years of age. That is a major victory for those who have drawn to the government’s attention the flaws introduced into the Autism Program by the previous MCYS Minister.  It was done with all of the self-congratulatory rhetoric expected from any of the government’s announcements, and it remains to be seen whether or not Murphy’s Law intervenes to ensure that it gets botched in implementation, but it does sound like a step in the right direction.  It still insn’t right – treatment for conditons such as autism should be covered under government–sponsored health insurance, in my opinion.
